Rubtsov, a prominent scientist in thermophysics, winner of the USSR State Award, Honored Scientist of the USSR, Chief researcher of the Institute of Thermophysics, celebrated his 90th anniversary on April 1, 2017. N.A. Rubtsov is one of the leading experts in the field of radiative and complex heat trans- fer. His contribution to the development and improvement of approximate methods for radia- tion transfer theory for emitting, absorbing, and dispersing media, as well as in systems with complex geometry is hard to underestimate. His research in the interaction between emission and thermal conductivity in semitransparent materials under nonstationary conditions with se- lective optical properties is widely known. Nikolay A. Rubtsov supervised the development of methods for heat transfer calculation in the objects of space technology: exoatmospheric astrophysical stations and solid fuel rocket engines were developed. Jointly with his colleagues he studied radiative-conductive heat trans- fer and radiative-convective heat transfer in boundary layers on permeable and non-permeable surfaces and experimentally determined optical properties of substances for a wide range of temperatures.
