Thermophysics and Aeromechanics, 2017, Vol. 24, No. 3 DOI: 10.1134/S0869864317030167 May 24, 2017 is the 90th anniversary of a famous scientist in the field of thermophysics, Professor, academician of RAS Alexander I. Leontyev. A.I. Leontyev graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1950 and started his sci- entific career at the Krzhizhanovsky Power Engineering Institute. Alexander I. Leontyev stud- ied the process of cooling for rocket liquid propellants, and this was the subject of his Ph.D. In 1959, A.I. Leontyev moved to Novosibirsk, where he had been working till 1968 as head of Thermal Gas Dynamics Laboratory at the Institute of Thermophysics (Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences). The “Siberian stage” of his life was very fruitful and rich in events. A.I. Leontyev was among the founders of IT and among its very first employees. A decisive influence on Alexander Leontyev’s activities was rendered by his close cooperation with S.S. Kutateladze for this period. His most known achievement was the asymptotic theory of turbulent boundary layer. This theory was the backbone of his Doctorate thesis (the first the- sis of this rank at the Institute of Thermophysics). Samson S. Kutateladze and Alexander I. Leontyev put many efforts
