XI. Mechanism of Fracture: Th e injuries of the skeleton and the soft tissues, described in Chapters 8 and 9 have not been put into relation with any special trauma even if the term 'traumati c dislocation of the patella' is referred to in the text. In Chapter 6 it is mentioned that 47 of the 72 patients, included in this investigation, gave information which directly or indirectly indicated that they had been subjected to traumatic dislocation of the patella. Thi s may consequently be the direct cause of the radiographically and operatively established lesions of the knee-joint. As there was no marked difference neither radiographically nor operatively between the lesions of the knee which could be established in patients who stated and those who could not state patellar dislocation in their history, all injuries of the knee in this investigation have been considered to be caused by traumatic dislocation of the patella and thus typical of this condition.
