TW O TYPES OF FRACTUR E OF TH E RADIA L SESAMOID BON E OF TH E METACARPOPHALANGEA L JOINT O F TH E THUM B by BERTI L STENER and INGEMAR STENER Onl y a few cases of fracture of th e radia l sesamoid bone of th e metacarpo phalangeal joint of the thum b have been reported (for references see LUNG- MUSS 1953 and BYRNE 1959). B. STENER (1963) studied three cases in connec tion with operative treatment of th e injury, and concluded from an investiga tion of fresh post-mortem specimens that the fractures had been produced by hyperextension of the joint . (In two of the cases the ulna r sesamoid bone was fractured as well.) The present paper describes two further cases in which a fracture of the radial sesamoid bone of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb has been studied in connection with operative treatment.
