The J. M. Ko Medal of Advances in Structural Engineering was launched in 2013 in honor of Professor J. M. Ko, the founding Editor-in-Chief of this journal. The Medal is awarded to the most outstanding paper in terms of quality and impact among the papers published three years ago. That is, the 2017 Medal is awarded to a paper selected from the papers published by the journal in 2014 (Volume 17). The selection procedure started with the initial assessment of papers by the local editorial team of the journal (including the two Editors-in-Chief, Editors, and Associate Editors), during which the non-self Web of Science citation data of a paper (i.e. excluding all citations by the co-authors of the paper) were consulted. Three papers were shortlisted based on the initial assessment and were then submitted to the International Editorial Board and International Advisory Board of the journal for selection. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the following paper has been selected to receive the 2017 J. M. Ko Medal for papers published in the journal in 2014: “Responses of masonry infill walls retrofitted with CFRP, steel wire mesh and laminated bars to blast loadings” Vol. 17, No. 6, pp. 817−836, by Li Chen, Qin Fang, Junyu Fan, Yadong Zhang, Hong Hao and Jingchun Liu. Each author of the winning paper will receive a Medal and they will together share a cash prize of US$ 200. Please join us in congratulating the authors of this paper and in thanking the members of both the International Editorial Board and the International Advisory Board for all their hard work. Jin-Guang Teng and Yong Xia Editors-in-Chief On behalf of the Editorial Team Advances in Structural Engineering
