Statistics dictate her a failure. Job instead of a career. Food stamps instead of perfectly clipped suburban coupons. Section 8 housing instead of a white picket fence and a garden filled with her favorite flowers, (Stargazers in case anyone wondered). When journalists and social workers recite percentages and predictions, she shows them mercy. Smiling through precious Mondays humming her daughter’s favorite nursery rhyme. Vendepatria Election Day. The day where we check boxes and others check on us to see if we agree, wear a sticker like an elementary school quiz, recycle all things red, white, and blue from fourth of July picnics. If I vote for a man, I’m selling out my gender, with nightmares of Susan B.
