Freema n and Company, 1969. 149 + xviii pp. $2.75 It is not surprising, considering the rebirth of Piagetian theory, to find a number of recent texts on the man and his work. Some of these manuscripts are rather esoteric in nature. Others have been written at a more introductory level. It is among the latter that we find the Phillips' paperback. The basic purpose of this text is to provide "a general summary of Piaget's theory, written at a relatively nontechnical level." No attempt is made to provide a comprehensive coverage of Piaget's vo­ luminous writings. Instead, the author seeks a more modest, but none­ theless, difficult assignment of presenting the basic Piagetian concepts together with sufficient examples of Piaget's fascinating research strategies. How successful is he in accomplishing his objective? In general, he has turne d in a creditable performance, especially when one stops to realize that Phillips is trying to present in his 149 page work what Piaget has presented in the equivalent of 75 two-hundred and fifty page books.
