Whether progress in this bridge building seems slow depends upon the time scale one chooses to apply. The MMY's have been available for barely a generation; the testing movement itself goes back hardly more than two generations. The printing press has been around for 17 generations in the Western World and still the level of adult literacy is only reasonably satisfactory. We can hope that the achievement of reasonable literacy in tests and measure ments will not take quite so long. Not the least of the grounds for this hope is the rich deposit of mental measurement wisdom that Buros has made available through the Yearbooks. Henry S.
