Reviews Buros, Oscar K. Reading Tests and Reviews. New Jersey, Gryhon Press, 1968. 520 -h xxii pp. $15.00 Whe n Buros first conceived of a volume that would pull together all the material on reading tests contained in the Mental Measurement Yearbooks, he thought of it as a monograph, one of a series on key topics, of 50-200 pages. But that was in 1940. It took almost 30 years to achieve his goal, and almost 500 pages. Since this volume is in fact a distillation of all six MMY's published from 1938 to 1965, it serves as a means, in one area, reading, of evaluating both the progress in reading testing over the years and th e impact of the MMY's on reading testing. Buros, in fact, indicates that since their inception, one goal of the MMY's has been "to impel test authors and publishers to place fewer bu t better tests on the market" (xv). The length of this book suggests tha t the goal of producing fewer tests has not been achieved. In fact, of 292 reading tests which have been listed since 1938, all but 83 were still in print when this book was published. Fully,
