Report on Education

Report on Education S. A. RAYNER State Education in Victoria In 1958 the Victorian Minister of Education appointed a committee consisting of the Director of Education, his three senior departmental officers, the Director of the Australian Council for Educational Research, and a former President of the Victorian Teachers’ Union to review the State’s educational system. The report of this committee, State Education in Victoria, contains an historical account of educational development in the State, a survey of existing educational facilities, and a consideration of problems to be faced. Although Miss Alice Hoy’s historical introduction and the description of the aims and organization of education in Victoria will be a valuable source of reference, the discussion of “ educational problems ” and the implied solutions will form the most interesting section of the report to those in other States. The chapter on “ Educational Problems ” commences by pointing to technological and social changes which have made obsolescent a great deal of what was taught twenty years ago. The daily increase in the fund of know- ledge, the increasing trend towards large-scale operation in production and commerce and international geographical and political changes as a result of the conquest of time and space http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian Journal of Education SAGE
