Report on Education: The Staff of the Burwood Teachers' College

Report on Education: The Staff of the Burwood Teachers' College REPORT ON EDUCATION THE STAFF OF THE BURWOOD TEACHERS' COLLEGE Problems in the Education of Teachers Various" Reports on Education" during the past few years have indicated that writers in Australia, America and England are displaying increasing interest in the education of teachers. The fundamental question that arises concerns the relative values of general (academic and/or cultural) studies on the one hand, and specific training in the theories and practices of education on the other. There appears to be an underlying assumption that a much more scholarly approach, with due regard to the findings of research in both psychology and education, is needed to raise the status of the specific training offered to prospective teachers. Some of these basic principles are discussed in the report of a conference which met from June till August, 1960, at the Centre for Advanced Study in the Behavioural Sciences at Palo Alto, California. It is pointed out that the specific task of the members at this gathering was to define the essentials of "importance to a teacher in the way of teaching beyond knowledge of the subject he teaches", and to discuss the ways in which these fundamental skills may be mastered. Abstract

REPORT ON EDUCATION THE STAFF OF THE BURWOOD TEACHERS' COLLEGE Problems in the Education of Teachers Various" Reports on Education" during the past few years have indicated that writers in Australia, America and England are displaying increasing interest in the education of teachers.
