This article examines the ways in which the feminist perspective isbeing eroded in the popular culture through self-help books for women. It discusses two models of such books—the psychological and theretrofeminist. Both models represent a retraction of the feminist idealof equality and mutuality in relationships. The proliferation of thesebooks signals a disturbing trend.
