The topic before us is, “Should parents tell their child of his handicap ‘label ’? ” On my right, it is my distinct pleasure to introduce Mother, who has graciously consented to take the affirmative side of the debate. Her background of dispensing discipline, drying eyes, applying bandages, and attending teacher conferences makes her a highly qualified individual to tackle this position. On my left, it is an honor to present Father. Although he has been known to argue equally well for the affirmative side, he has kindly consented to present the negative position in our de- bate. His resum’e shows that, as a “breadwinner” and “head of Doreen Kronick, 306 Warren Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5P 2M8, cofounder of the Canadian Association for Children with Learning Disabili- ties, is a lecturer in the faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, and in charge of counseling parents of the learning disabled at WellesleyHospital.
