Grants, Awards, and Fellowships: The Epidemiology of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dement- ing Disorders of Older Age Alzheimer's disease has been variously estimated to affect 2 to 3 million in people the United States. The imprecision and variability of these estimates stem from differences in diagnostic criteria, data col- lection methods, and the underlying age structures in the populations studied. Epidemiological research is therefore needed to complement ongoing clinical and basic research. In response to this has authorized In- need, Congress the National stitute on Aging to offer a grant to develop an Alzheimer's (NIA) Disease Patient Registry (ADPR). Applications which address any area of the epidemiology of Alzheimer' s disease and other dementing disorders of older age are in- vited. Applicants are particularly encouraged to develop improved case finding techniques, to evaluate and refine diagnostic criteria, to develop diagnostic screening procedures, and to further advance epidemiological sampling and design.
