FIRST SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE OF THE NORDIC SOCIETY FOR RADIATION PROTECTION The Nordic Society for Radiation Protection was founded in June, 1964. Its first scientific conference was organized by the Swedish section of the Society and held in Stockholm, 6-9 February 1966. The conference was attended by about 150 persons from all the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and a total of 35 papers was contrib uted. The following main topics were chosen for the program of the con ference. 1. The present fallout pattern in the Nordic countries; radioactive waste. 2. Biologic effects of low level irradiation. 3. Radiation monitoring and protection of patients and personnel. 4. New developments in instrumentation and methods. Two panel discussions were also arranged. The subject of the first one was "The application of the latest recommendations of the International Com mission on Radiological Protection". The panel was chaired by E. J VEL HENNINGSEN, Denmark, members were B. CHRISTENSEN and P. GRANDE, Denmark, K. SALIMAKI, Finland, K. KOREN, Norway and A. HEDGRAN and B. LINDELL, Sweden. The second panel discussed "Health hazards of individuals and populations from irradiation by small doses". Chairman was R. EKER, Norway and members M. FABER and J. SCHULTZ-LARSEN, Denmark, F. DEVIK and P. OFTEDAL, Norway and K. G. LUNING and A. NELSON, Sweden. The Conference was opened by its President, professor ROLF M. SIEVERT, who gave a historical review of The Establishment and Development of the ICRP. We now have the privilege to publish the majority of the papers presented at the First Nordic Radiation Protection Conference in Stockholm. A few of the papers read at the conference have not been submitted for publication; the titles of these are included in the table of contents. K. LIDEN
