Isn’t it wonderful to be together again after 5 years! And for those of you who are attend- ing for the first time, I hope you make some wonderful memories in this beautiful city of Victoria and have great learning and connecting experiences at this the 7th IFNC. What do I believe is the next great challenge and opportunity in family nursing? I believe it is marriage. Specifically, marriage in health and illness! Thus far, we have done a marvelous job of study- ing, researching, and conducting clinical practice with families and various subsystems within families when serious illness arises. How- ever, little focus has been paid to the most important subsystem, the marital subsystem, when serious illness and suffering occur. Chil- dren, caregivers, the elderly, and various illness populations have received tremendous and worthwhile attention.
