Her teaching and research interests include families and health, single-parent families, parent- hood and fatherhood, and child/adolescent/family mental health and therapy. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau, a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) with the National Council on Family Relations, and an approved supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. She also has an independent practice in child, couple, and family therapy. She has written many articles and book chapters and authored/ edited several books, including Single Parent Families: Diversity, Myths and Realities (Haworth, 1994) and Family Health Care Nursing: Theory, Practice and Research (F. A. Davis, 1996 1st ed., 2001 2nd ed., 2005 3rd ed.). She is on the editorial boards of or is a reviewer for Family Rela- tions, Western Journal of Nursing Research, Journal of Family Nursing, Advances in Nursing Science, and Marriage and Family Review.
