Editorial Policy and Contributions The Australian Journal .f Education publishes research and scholarship bearing on the pro- vision of education. It has special interest in papers that constitute innovations in theories, methodologies and other ways of understanding education, and also in papers that are directed towards improvements in education policies and practices. Reflecting the charac- ter of education studies as a field of knowledge, contributions are drawn from a range of disciplines and inter-disciplinary approaches. The AJE is interested in quantitative, qualita- tive and interpretative work, and in the development of rigorous and useful intersections and interrogations between different modes of thought. As an Australian-specific journal, the AJE contributes to the global field of education studies by publishing, at the highest levels of quality, significant papers drawn from Australian programs of research and scholarship, and/or papers about Australian education, thereby bringing the distinctive strengths of Australian education into global exchange. The journal also encourages international contributions, cross-border reflections and comparisons, and discussion of global relations in education. The bulk of the articles published in the AJE are single papers, contributed by authors or invited by the editor. From time to time the journal publishes special issues, consisting of local and international papers focused on a particular topic. The AJE is an ISSI-listed journal. Except for editorials and book reviews, published articles are normally subject to blind peer-review. Papers must conform to AJE style. In preparing articles, contributors should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). The Manual includes instructions on referencing including electronic media, tables, figures, metrifi- cation and non-sexist language. All articles should be preceded by an abstract of 100-150 words and should be a maximum of 6000 words, including references and tables. Authors should include a list of six keywords from the Australian Thesaurus Lzf Education Descriptors (2nd ed., 1996), by Elspeth Miller and Margaret Findlay (Melbourne: ACER). Four copies of each article and an identical disk should be submitted. The disk should be labelled with author namc(s), title, and hardware/software specifications. Authors should retain a copy of all contributions. The manuscript should niinimise clues to author identity. Contri- butions are reviewed by the Editor and if considered suitable are sent to reviewers. After receiving recommendations from the reviewers, the Editor determines whethcr the manuscript is accepted, sent for revision or rejected. The Editor reserves the right to vary those processes.
