The Australian Journal of Education was established in 1957 under the editorship of Professor Bill Connell. Drawing upon research conducted in Australia and internationally, the AJE aims to inform educational researchers, as well as educators, administrators and policy- makers, about issues of contemporary concern in education. The AJE seeks to publish research studies that contribute to educational knowledge and research methodologies, and that review findings of research studies. Its scope embraces all fields of education and train- ing. In addition to publishing research studies about education, it also publishes articles that address education in relation to other fields. Articles submitted are subject to full peer review by a panel of experts, including members of the Editorial Board of the AJE. The bulk of the articles published in the AJE are single papers, contributed by authors or invited by the Editor. From time to time the journal publishes special issues, consisting of local and international papers focused on a particular topic. The AJE is listed in the Thomson ISI Social Sciences Citation Index and the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) database. Except for editorials and book reviews, published articles are subject to blind peer-review. Papers must conform to AJE style. In preparing articles, contributors should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). The Manual provides instructions on referencing—including electronic media, tables, figures, metrification and non-sexist language. All articles should be preceded by an abstract of 100–150 words and should be a maximum of 6,000 words, including references and tables. Authors should include a list of six keywords from the Australian Thesaurus of Education Descriptors (3rd ed., 2003), compiled and edited by Anna Gifford (Melbourne: ACER). Full details of submission requirements and sample issues of the journal can be found on the AJE website at <http://www.acer.edu.au/aje>. Articles are submitted via the AJE website at <http://research.acer.edu.au/aje>.Authors should go to this site, open an account if necessary, and follow the instructions under the ‘Submit Article’ link. Should any difficulties arise, authors should contact the Editor, Glenn Rowley, at <aje@acer.edu.au>, sending the article in Word format, with ‘AJE contribution’ in the Subject field. Authors should retain a copy of all contributions. The manuscript should minimise clues to author identity. Contributions are reviewed by the Editor and if considered suitable are sent to reviewers without identification. After receiving recommen- dations from the reviewers, the Editor determines whether the manuscript is accepted, sent for revision or rejected. The Editor reserves the right to vary those processes. Books for review should be sent to: Dr Glenn Rowley, Editor, AJE, Private Bag 55, Camberwell,Victoria 3124. Email for all matters: aje@acer.edu.au Subscriptions: Three issues p.a.: Australia AU $109.95 (individual), $174.95 (institutions), international AU $146 (individual), $208 (institutions) inc. air mail.
