Editorial Environment and Urbanization ASIA 5(1) vii–x © 2014 National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) SAGE Publications Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, Om Prakash Mathur Washington DC DOI: 10.1177/0975425314527817 http://eua.sagepub.com With this issue, Environment and Urbanization Asia has entered the fifth year of its publication. Those of you who have kept a track of the journal will have noted that while its thematic coverage has been wide-ranging, the one theme that continues to engage, or perhaps agitate, the contributors most is that of urban environment. Weighed in terms of the number of articles written, urban environment occupies the largest space, this issue being one example of its increasing importance. What is of particular interest is the variety of ways in which contributors bring out the environmental concerns – some with facts that convey the size or the magnitude of the environmental problems, some with propositions they consider important for addressing urban environmental issues, and others do it by a systematic examination of how growth affects environment and how environment affects different social groups.
