Editorial This issue completes the fifth volume o f Advances in Structural E ngineering . R eaders w ho h ave fo llowed t he development o f th e jo urnal ma y b e ab le to re call that this journal w as l aunched in 1 997 to p romote E ast-West exchanges in structural engineering. I be lieve that this mission has been very well fulfilled by t he journal which ha s published a b alanced mix ture o f p apers from th e E ast and t he West. The jou rnal has a lso published a series of sh ort articles introducing lead ing i nstitutions and o utstanding in dividuals i n stru ctural engineering in C hina. In deed, t he journal ha s se en a he althy d evelopment si nce its establishment, and h as be come o ne o f t he m ajor in ternational journals in stru ctural engineering. It is now a co re jo urnal o f t he E ngineering In dex d atabase. To fu rther en hance the i mpact of th e j ournal in th e n ext few y ears, th e L ocal E ditorial Team re cently c onducted a re view of its status, which l ed to a n umber of re commendations. A mong them i s the fo rmation o f tw o new boards with d istinct roles, an I nternational A dvisory Bo ard an d a n In ternational E ditorial Board, t o rep lace th e e xisting International E ditorial Board b y th e e nd o f th is year. A t th e s ame time, I w ill retire from th e po sition o f E ditor-in- Chief, w hich w ill be tak en u p b y m y co lleague Pro fessor Jin -Guang T eng. M y a ssociation with th e jo urnal w ill however c ontinue, th ough in a d ifferent cap acity. Over t he l ast six years, I h ave g reatly e njoyed w orking w ith ma ny c olleagues in d ifferent p arts of t he w orld w ho contributed th eir precious ti me to ma ke th e jo urnal a su ccess.
