I would like to take this opportunity of expressing my gratitude to all those members of the education community who, during this year, have reviewed articles for the Australian Journal of Education. In the first nine months of 1981, 134 manuscripts were received and each paper was sent to two reviewers. Generally the reviewing time has been less than eight weeks and for many papers it was less than four weeks. Of the 134 manuscripts, 11 were recom mended for publication without substantive alterations, 12 were strongly recommended but revisions were proposed, 2 were recommended for possible publication if major revisions were incorporated, 94 were rejected, and 15 are still being reviewed. Overall the acceptance rate for 1981 is likely to be approxi mately 16 per cent of articles submitted. In many cases the rejections related to empirical studies that adopted restricted samples, inadequate statistical tech niques, or limited research methodologies. Authors are encouraged to consider the possibility of submitting short research reports for studies that may have restricted orientations. It is important that the papers that are presented in the AJE reach as many educators as possible. Therefore, as well as ensuring that manuscripts are abstracted internationally, an attempt is being made to increase the inter national circulation of the J ournal by arranging reciprocal advertising with publications such as the American Journal of Education and Educational Research. Once again may I thank the reviewers of manuscripts and of books for their splendid assistance. Kevin Marjoribanks
