BRAITHWAITE, a lecturer in education at Macquarie University since 1971, graduated in arts from the University of New England in 1965 and was awarded the degree of M.Ed. from Sydney University in 1969. He has been a teacher and a Cumculum Research Officer with the N.S.W. Department of Education, and was appointed Deputy Principal at the North Sydney Demonstration School in 1970. In the same year he was seconded to the Macquarie University Teacher Education Programme. J. R. CLOUGH, B.A. (Melb.), 1963, B.Ed. (Melb.), 1966, Ph.D. (Monash), 1972, has been a lecturer in the faculty of education at James Cook University of North Queensland since July, 1971. He taught in primary and secondary schools during 1953-1961, was a Guidance Officer for the following two years, and a teachers’ college lecturer from 1964 to 1968. FRANK COULTER graduated in arts from the University of Melbourne in 1967. and also holds the degrees of B.Ed. (Melbourne, 1962). M.Ed. (Alberta, 1968). and Ph.D. (Monash, 1972). Since August, 1971, he has held a lectureship in education at the James Cook University of North Queensland. He has taught in Victorian state secondary schools, was an Assistant Secretary to the Victorian Universities and Schools Examination Board during 1965-1966, and a graduate student at the University of Alberta and at Monash University during 1967-1971. He is the author of Working with Maps, and editor of Field Studies in Southeast Asia. J. M. GENN is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Queensland and holds from that university degrees in science and arts and a W.D. degree in education. He was a secondary school science teacher before joining the university staff in 1960. His special interest is in the study of learning environments in secondary and higher education and he has published a number of articles in this field. D. R. HUXLEY. B.A. (1966). Litt.B. (I968), M.A. (1972). has been a lecturer in English at Newcastle Teachers’ College since 1969, and is also a part-time tutor in linguistics at Newcastle University. During 1962-1968 he taught in primary schools and in high schools, and has held several part-time appointments. He is also interested in phonological aspects of the language of disadvantaged children. W. R. LETT has been Chain of the Centre for the Study of Teaching, School of Education, and a senior lecturer in education at LaTrobe University since 1971. He holds the degrees of B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Melbourne, and a Ph.D. (1967) from the University of California. He lectured in educational psychology and counselling at the Secondary Teachers’ College, Melbourne, during 1964-1066, was an assistant professor in education at California State College. Hayward (196f3-1967). and held a lectureship in education at the University of New England during 1968-1970. He has edited Gounwlling for What ?, published recently. E. J. MANNING became a senior lecturer in education at Newcastle Teachers’ College in 1969. He holds the degree of M.A. (1968) from the University of Sydney, has taught in New South Wales state high schools, has been a guidance officer, and a lecturer at teachers’ colleges in Sydney and Bathurst. F. D. NAYLOR, B.A. (Sydney, 1969). has been a lecturer in education at the University of Melbourne since 1966, and has recently submitted his W.D. thesis for examination. He started his career in education as a guidance officer with the N.S.W. Department of Technical Education, then became a student counsellor at the University of N.S.W.. and spent a year at the Australian National University as a visiting student counsellor. He is the author of Personality and Educational Achievement. K. F. PUNCH graduated in arts from the University of Western Australia in 1959 and holds the degree of B.Ed. from that university. He was awarded the degree of W.D. from the University of Toronto in 1967, and was an assistant professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education until his return to the University of Western Australia in 1970, where he was appointed a senior lecturer in education. A. H. WALKINGTON has been a superintendent of technical education in the Western Australian Education Department since 1968, and holds the degrees of B.A. (196l), B.Sc. (1951). and M.Ed. (1966) from the University of W.A. and the postgraduate Diploma in Education Administration of the W.A. Institute of Technology. After several years as a science teacher in secondary schools, he became a lecturer in education and lectured in educational administration.
