Contributors to This Number PROFESSOR C. SANDERS was appointed Professor of Education at the University of Western Australia in 1954, after having been Registrar of that University since 1940. He graduated M.A., Dip.Ed. from the University of Western Australia, and has a Ph.D. degree from London. In 1954 he visited S.E. Asia for the Australian universities under the Colombo Plan. He is well known for his research and publications on selection and academic success in Australian universities. DR. JAMES R CONANT until recently was U.S. Ambassador to Germany. He is a graduate of the University of Harvard, where he served as a Professor of Organic Chemistry and then as President (1933-53). A distinguished scientist and an educator, he is the author of many books, among which are Education in a Divided Woyld (1948) and Education and Liberty (1953). In 1952 he spent some time visiting Australian schools and universities. DR. F. J. OLSEN is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Queensland. He holds the degrees of B.Sc., M.Ed. and Ph.D., and has taught science in Queensland and New South Wales. He is a past President of the Australian Science Teachers' Ass ocia­ tion and was an Australian delegate to the 1956 Unesco Conference at Bangkok on Science Teaching in S.E. Asia. Of late his main research interests have centred round the study of failure in university examinations. DR G. W. BASSETT graduated M.A., Dip.Ed. from the University of Sydney, and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of London in 1940. He has taught in New South Wales schools, been a Lecturer at the Sydney Teachers' College, and is now Principal of the Armidale Teachers' College and Head of the Department of Education in the University of New England. He has published a number of articles, principally in the Forum of Education, on Teacher Education and on various aspects of Secondary Education. DR. E. R. WYETH is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Melbourne. He is a graduate of the Universities of Queensland and Melbourne, and obtained his Ed.D. degree at the University of California. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and is interested mainly in Educational Psychology. He is the author of a recently published work. Education in Queensland. J. A. J. CAINE is the Officer-in-Charge of the Occupational Research Section in the Department of Labour and National Service. He graduated B.A. at the University of has had several years of teaching experience, and since World War II Queensland in 1941, has been engaged in Vocational Guidance work in the above department. J. C. GREENHALGH graduated B.A. (1929) and REd. (1946) at the University of Queensland. After a period of teaching he was a Lecturer at the Teachers' College, Regional Director, South-Western Educational Region, and, now, Principal of the Teachers' College, Brisbane. He has written textbooks for schools in History and in English, and was a member of the Syllabus Committee which re-designed the Queensland Primary School Syllabus 1947-52. It was in connection with this particular work that he wrote the article" Problems in Curriculum Development" appearing in Vol. I, No.2, of this Journal. DR. S. A. RAYNER is Research Officer in the Queensland Department of Education. He holds the degrees of M.A. (Q'ld.), M.Ed. (Melb.) and Ed.D.
