Numerous popular and scholarly articles have examined sexual harassment in the workplace, but have not addressed the existing orpotential costs to business and society. This article examines the individual and societal costs of sexual harassment in the context of thenecessity of competing in an international marketplace, projections ofa labor shortage, and predictions that the decline in the productivityof workers will result in a lower standard of living for Americans. Adiscussion of the efficacy of current social policy in addressing the issue follows, as do recommendations to address the macroeconomicconsequences.
