Cerebral Angiography by Catheterization — Complications and Side Effects:

Cerebral Angiography by Catheterization — Complications and Side Effects: FROM THE ROENTGEN DEPARTMENT (DIRECTOR: PROF. J. FRIMANN-DAHL) AND THE NEUROLOGIC DEPARTMENT (DIRECTOR: B. INGEBRIGTSEN) ULLEVAL HOSPITAL, OSLO, NORWAY. CEREBRAL ANGIOGRAPHY BY CATHETERIZATION COMPLICATIONS AND SIDE EFFECTS by PER AMUNDSEN, PER DIETRICHSON, IVAR ENGE and ROLF WILLIAMSON Since cerebral angiography was introduced for diagnostic purposes more than thirty years ago, its indications (e. g. KUHN, and WHISNANT), technique (ENGESET, ELFVIN, LIVERUD, LINDGREN, inter al.), contrast media (BROMAN, BROADBRIDGE, and ENGESET, inter al.) and its complications (BAKER, BREND LER, CODDON, LIVERUD, MARTINEZ, SCH0LTSEL, and WICKBOM, inter al.) have all been adequately covered in the literature. The possibility of effective treat ment in cerebral vascular disease has extended the field of indication for cere bral angiography and made it important carefully to consider the complica tions of the examination. The frequency of sequelae vary considerably in different publications, from none (SEGELOV) up to 20 % (CODDON et coll.). This discrepancy is probably due to several factors: variations in the definition of complications and their evaluation; differences in planning of the investigations; difficulties in de ciding which changes are caused by the angiography and which by the con dition itself. Furthermore, the series selected vary widely as to the type of cases http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Acta Radiologica. Diagnosis SAGE
