Abstract

Book Reviews features or relations in children's language. These in turn merge into the developmental study of the cognitive bases of language. Certainly Ervin-Tripp is correct in her judgment that psycholinguistic research in children's acquisition of language is shifting from grammatical considerations to more strictly psychological models and heuristic procedures. The danger in all this may be in attempting too much. By going to a semantic base and a processing model we may let in too many variables. Trying t o account for everything from the child's semantic intuitions to full-blown utterances looks to be an impossible task. And the genius of making expHcit the original grammatical intuition is in danger of being lost by coming full circle to o soon t o the ultimate questions of meaning and intention, Stone, James, C , and DeNevi, Donald P.
