Book Review: Smart Book and Software Reviews SMART, Innovative Software, Inc., 9875 Widmer Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66215. Version 2 & 3. $895 ($480). The IBM PC and its compatibles have contributed much to the development of the small business computer market. Their proliferation, fostered by the mar­ keting prowess of IBM, has quickly brought recognition to the PC/MS-DOS operating system as the de facto industry standard. Many computer-oriented magazines publish studies comparing the ''popular'' software packages for such systems. Recently, integrated packages have accounted for an increasing number of these studies. One package that has not found its way into many articles but is beginning to have a loyal following is the SMART series by Innovative Soft­ ware. SMART, as the name implies, is an intelligent package that can be used easily by the novice and very efficiently by the more competent user. This versatility is accomplished through the use of a parameter setting which defines the user's level of familiarity with the system. As a user gets more comfortable with the system, this "confidence level" can be increased to allow access to more avail­ able features or to suppress menus.
