Book Review: Secondary School Reorganisation in England and Wales, Going Comprehensive

Book Review: Secondary School Reorganisation in England and Wales, Going Comprehensive BOOK REVIEWS There are however two matters which in relation to the need for quick reference become a considerable detraction. Firstly, the bibliographies occupy a separate section at the end of the book : as neither they nor the chapters to which they relate are numbered, finding them is likely to become a continubig irritation. The editors’ claim, made in the light of reviews of the first volume, that this arrangement makes for easier reference mystifies this reviewer. Secondly, though the index has been compiled with considerable care, it would better fulfil its vital function were the subjects and names to be treated separately, and the former anyway to be considerably expanded and elaborated. The book is unhesitatingly recommended to the readership for which it is intended, but with the possible exception of the classroom practitioner. The urgent (desperate ?) need here is for a publication which translates research findings into terms which the practitioner can readily comprehend. But this much wider matter is one whose lack cannot be laid at the door of the editors of this much-needed series. Abstract

BOOK REVIEWS There are however two matters which in relation to the need for quick reference become a considerable detraction.
