The book is based on twelve Thematic Background papers prepared by international experts for the International Conference for Renewable Energies held in Bonn in 2004, convened and hosted by the German Government. The German Government’s invitation to attend the conference was accepted by 3600 participants, with delegations from 154 countries, including 121 Ministers responsible for energy, the environment and development. The participants included delegates and observers from National Governments, UN and International Organisations, and including a range of Institutes and companies. The original Thematic Papers by international experts have been updated and revised for this book, in order to reflect recent developments.
