Students, professionals, and professors, young and not so young, native English speakers and non-, are all susceptible. It seems that I am not alone in this quandary. In “On Revision: The Only Writing That Counts,” William Germano, a former editorial and publishing manager and currently a professor of English literature at Cooper Union addresses this question and offers a wealth of guidance on how to write better.
