BOOK REVIEW HILLWAY, TYRUS. Introduction to Research. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., 1964. pp . xi + 308. $4.75. This is the second edition of a textbook published in 1956. In the preface Hillway says: "The gratifyingly enthusiastic reception of this work by both professors and students . . . ever since its first appear ance in 1956 has confirmed the author's belief that graduate students need a general understanding of the spirit and methods of research before undertaking specialized research in their own fields. .. . As in the earlier edition, every effort has been made to present a clear description of the main principles and methods of research with an economy of words and without the unnecessary mystification so often found in works on re search." The author states further: "The Second Edition . . . has been pre pared in response to inquiries and suggestions received from colleagues and students in many parts of the United States. . . . The principal re sult . . . has been the addition of two entirely new chapters—one on the development of research in education and psychology and one giving further consideration to the use of statistical method in
