Book Review: Guide to Children's Court Practice in Victoria

Book Review: Guide to Children's Court Practice in Victoria ALTST & NZ ]()URNAL ()F CRIMIN()L()GY (March 1981) 14 (55-64) BOOK REVIEWS Guide to Children's Court Practice in Victoria. Francine V McNiff, CCO Australia Ltd (1979) $17. It is pleasing to see a law publisher taking an interest in producing a work on practice in the children's courts. In recent years there has been more publicity given to the children's courts in this country than ever before. Most of the interest has been generated by the inquiries into the jurisdiction which have been going on in all States and Territories. Yet little is generally known of the day to day workings of the courts and the agencies which assist them, although many in the comm unity come into direct contact with them. Francine McNiffs book sets out to fill a very real gap in Victoria. All aspects of children's court practice find a place in the book, the summary and superior courts, the police and the welfare agencies which report to the courts and implement many of their orders. The table of contents promises that, having read the book, the reader will know exactly what goes on in the Victorian system, but the book falls short of this promise, http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian & New Zealand Journal of Criminology SAGE
