Book Review: Educational Research: An Introduction

Book Review: Educational Research: An Introduction BOOK REVIEW Educational Research: An Introduction. Walter R. Borg. London. Longmans, Green & Co., Ltd. 1963. pp. 418. Since the publication of the monumental Methods of Research by Good and Scates in 1954, writers on this subject seem to have realized the futility of trying to cram an ever-expanding topic between the covers of one volume. They have become more selective: they write for a more specialized readership, and they no longer try to cover every aspect of the subject. Because com petition amongst major publishers tends to produce uniform standards of production and authorship, a new book on the methodology of educational research is best appraised by considering its author's selection of audience and material. Borg writes Educational Research for the American Master's degree candidate in Education, and never forgets that he has chosen to address this audience specifically. Practising field and research workers or doctoral candidates should not be attracted by the title for they will find the treatment too elementary and the subject matter too restricted. But some students beginning Master's theses, wherever they may be, are bound to find here the security of a definite guide to help them through their initial bewilderment.
