Australian Price (Nov 1978) $22. Israel Drapkin has carved out several distinguished careers in widely separated parts of the world. He studied medicine in Chile. On becoming interested in criminology he brought to his studies and research in the subject the knowledge, training and perceptions of a physician and a medical research scientist. For nearly 25 years he directed research in criminology in Chile. For part of that time he was Professor of Social Pathology and Criminology in the University of Chile. When the United Nations -instituted its programmes of research and international collaboration in the area of crime prevention and control, Drapkin was recruited as a member of an international group of experts, one of the responsibilities of which was to provide advice and assistance to various governments who wanted to establish or develop research and teaching in criminology in their countries. He was invited by the Government of Israel to advise it on these matters in 1957.
