Book Review: Australian Education: Review of Recent Research Australia" Journal of Education, Vol. 32, No.3, 1988, 406-413 Book Reviews Australian Education: Review of Recent Research Edited by John Keeves Sydney: Allen & Unwin, 1987. The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia is to be congratulated for sponsoring a handbook which will be of considerable use to researchers, teacher educators, administrators and policy mak­ ers and-it is to be hoped-students and classroom teachers. This comprehensive and up-to-date of educational research is a notable addition to Australian educational literature both in survey overall coverage and the clarity and incisiveness of the theme-based chapters. The review spans the years from the mid-sixties until 1985. Educational research came of age in Australia during these years. It was a time not only of rapid growth in research but of a broadening out into fields scarcely developed until then, whether in Australia or in other countries. No longer is it true as it was until the late fifties that advanced courses in universities and colleges in this country could only proceed on the basis of overseas research and scholarship as the staple of the syllabus.
