Brockhaus, Sr. Social Dimensions of Entrepreneurship, Albert Shapero Sociology of Entrepreneurship, Edwin Harwood The FTC and Funeral Homes The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has given final approval to a rule requiring that funeral homes supply price lists for goods and services. The new rule would also require funeral directors to advise customers over the phone that they can obtain price information and to answer price questions at that time. It would bar funeral homes from requiring customers to buy formal caskets. A section must be clarified concerning whether homes offering cremation should provide inexpensive containers such as pine boxes, and still unresolved is the wording of a section allowing customers to refuse payment for unauthorized embalming. Last year, Congress passed legislation limiting any FTC funeral rule to price disclosure and bars on unlawful practices, and requiring the FTC to submit the final rule to Congress where it must remain for a 90-day period.
