Alternatives to Laboratory Animals — We have More Power than we Think 1 ATLA 22, 1-2, 1994 Editorial----- Alternatives To Laboratory Animals - We Have More Power Than We Think This first issue of Volume 22 of ATLA appears at a time which is particularly significant, not only for ATLA itself, but also for alternatives to laboratory animals in general. ATLA 22 (1) marks the beginningofa partnership between the journal and the European' Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM). This issue therefore contains an account of the background' to the establishment of ECV AM and an outline of the Centre's initial activities. Future issues will contain an ECVAM News section, as well as reports of ECVAM Workshops. In order to accommodate these new sections, and also because of the increasing amount of activity related to alternatives, all over the world, ATLA will in future appear six times per year (in January, March, May, July, September and November), instead of quarterly. Significant changes are also taking place at FRAME, where Dr Robert Combes took up his position as Scientific Director at the beginning of January.
