Acceptance of the Three Rs Concept: A Battle Won ATLA 23 1-3 1995 1 Editorial----- This is a special volume of ATLA, to mark FRAME's 25th Anniversary, and it is dedicated to Mrs Dorothy Hegarty, who founded FRAME in 1969. Three of its six issues will contain a number of invited contributions, dealing with various aspects of the Three Rs and written by a diverse group of authors, ranging from Chris Fisher, former Chairman of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection, to Mark Matfield, Executive Director of the Research Defence Society. The three special issues will each have an invited Preface. The first of them is by William Russell and Rex Burch, and it is one of the first publications they have prepared together since the publication of The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique in 1959. It is followed by a delightful memoire about the early days of FRAME by Terry Hegarty, Mrs Hegarty's son and one of the original FRAME Trustees, and an account of FRAME's first 25 years by Bill Annett, Secretary to the FRAME Trustees, who has the di~tinction of having been practically involved in the Charity's work for longer than anybody else, staff member or Trustee.
