A Tribute to Audrey Mattson Bryan, September 15, 1948-November 18, 2001 JFN Bryan, Bell / Transition to Parenthood , August 2002, Vol. 8 No. 3 A Tribute to Audrey Mattson Bryan, September 15, 1948–November 18, 2001 Kathryn Hoehn Anderson, R.N., Ph.D. University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire “We should not be here!” echoed through St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on November 21, 2001, as family, colleagues, friends, and parishioners gathered at the overflowing service to cele- brate the life of Dr. Audrey Bryan. The memories are many and the loss stays. I want to acknowledge some of the gifts and talents she shared with us and left with us for all of you. Audrey died Sunday morning, November 18, with her husband, Tom, and her daughters, Erica and Nicki, at her side after a short but difficult struggle with metasticized biliary carcinoma. Diagnosed in mid-August 2001, she fought through pain, strokes, and continuing attacks on her physical body while she helped everyone else with her continuingindomitable spirit, allowingothers to support her in her illness.
