More than 2% infestation will result economic losses to the grower. ‘Carmel’ variety rows in a mature almond orchard, located in northern Madera County California, were divided into 5 replications of 27 treatments in a RCBD. The hull split treatments were applied on 10 Aug 2006 with a handgun sprayer delivering 150 gpa of spray solution through a 90 disc tip at 200 psi. A second application in a subset of the treatments was applied on 23 Aug with the same spray equipment and methods. Nut samples were taken from the harvestable treatments on 7 Sep and from the crop destruct treatments on 14 Sep. All samples were oven dried to kill the existing NOW larvae and stop damage at that point. From each treatment sample, 200 nuts were randomly selected and examined for NOW damage. The mean percentage infested nuts was calculated and analyzed using ANOVA, with mean separation using Fisher’s LSD (P = 0.05). The lowest percentage NOW infestation of nuts was exhibited by the Imidan 70WP tank-mixed with GWN-1971 and Latron B1956. This treatment while numerically the best was not significantly different from the following treatments: Imidan at 5.33 lb mixed with Latron B1956, Delegate, Warrior mixed with Induce, GWN-1976 mixed with Latron B1956, Baythroid XL mixed with Induce, Delegate followed by Intrepid mixed with Latron B1956, Intrepid mixed with Latron B1956, Proclaim mixed with Warrior and/or Induce, two applications of Novaluron mixed with Silwet, Altacor at 3 or 4 oz mixed with Induce, Imidan at 2.07 lb mixed with Latron B1956 or Alverde mixed with Silwet. For these treatments, nut damage ranged from 10.5 to 16.8 percent NOW infestation. Percentage nut damage in the remainder of the treatments was not significantly different from the untreated check.
