Arthropod Management Tests 2013, Vol. 38 doi: 10.4182/amt.2013.F51 (G22) BERMUDAGRASS (PASTURE): (Cynodon dactylon) TALL FESCUE (PASTURE): (Festuca arundinacea) EVALUATION OF EFFICAY OF SELECTED INSECTICIDES AGAINST FALL ARMYWORMS IN PASTURES, 2012 Jared S. Shelby Williams Twilliams@agcenter.lsu.edu D. Kerns Dkerns@agcenter.lsu.edu Fall armyworm (FAW): Spodoptera fruigiperda (J.E. Smith) Selected foliar insecticides were evaluated for control of FAW in pasture at the Macon Ridge Research Station in Franklin Parish near Winnsboro, LA. The test was initiated on 23 Jul 2012. Plot size was 13.33 ft × 40 ft. Treatments were arranged in a RCB design. Insecticides were applied by John Deere 6000 high cycle calibrated to deliver 10 gpa with TX-8 hollow cone at 55 psi compressed CO on 23 Jul. FAW larvae populations were assessed by taking by 25 sweeps/plot with a standard 15 inch sweep net. FAW larvae were separated based on size, small and large. Percent control was calculated based on a Henderson-Tilton formula. Evaluations were conducted on 23, 26 and 30 Jul (0, 3 and 7 DAT). Data were analyzed using an F protected LSD (P < 0.05). Pre-treatment counts of FAW larvae on 23 Jul averaged 37.46, 20.92, and 58.38 large, small and total larvae per 25 sweeps respectively. At 3 DAT there were no differences among treatments for small larvae and only Declare and Prevathon had fewer large and total FAW larvae compared to the untreated. Based on analysis of calculated percent control at 3 DAT, all of the treatments provided significant control with the exception of Dimilin. Dimilin is an IGR so control at 3 DAT isn’t expected. By 7 DAT the FAW population had declined across the entire test and no significant differences could be detected. Table 1.
