Convention on Agency in The International Sale of Goods CONVENTION ON AGENCY IN THE INTERNATIONAL SALE OF GOODS During the first three weeks of February 1983, the Swiss government was host to a diplomatic conference in Geneva that put in final form a Convention on Agency in the Inter­ national Sale of Goods. The conference was attended by representatives of 49 states as well as by observers from 9 states. The United States was represented by E. Allan Farns- worth of the Columbia Law School, Peter H. Pfund of the Le­ gal Adviser's Office of the Department of State, and George T. Dempsey of the United States Mission in Geneva. The fi­ nal act was signed by governments, including the United States, on 17 February 1983. The Convention is the product of the International Insti­ tute for the Unification on Private Law (UNIDROIT) in Rome, which began work in 1935 and published in 1961 a draft uniform law on agency in private law relations of an international character and a separate draft uniform law on the contract of commission in the international sale of goods.
