This volume and issue of the American Journal of Comparative Law ushers in a change in editorial leadership, but a change tha t also provides continuity. For the last five years (volumes 52 to 57), the Journal has bene fited from the joint labor of a collective leadership consisting of George A. Berman, James R. Gordley, and Mathias W. Reimann as co-editors in chief. Berman and Gordley decided not to seek renewal of thei r five-year terms, having succumbed to th e allure and luxury of returnin g to full-time teaching and scholarship. They have agreed, however, to serve on th e Executive Editorial Board and thu s continue to give us the benefit of their experience. On behalf of th e Journal's publisher, the American Society of Comparative Law, Inc., I express to both of them our sincere appreciation for their valuable service to the Journal, the Society, and comparative law in general, and wish them continued success in their scholarly endeavors. I am also delighted to announce that, at its 2008 annual meeting convened under the Society's by-laws, the Board of Editors unani mously elected Mathias W. Reimann as the new Editor-in-Chief and the University of Michigan Law School as the Journal's host institu tion for the next five years. The Journal couldn't be in better hands. Reimann has been an extremely thoughtful, able, and energetic leader. His willingness to continue serving as Editor-in-Chief pro vides stability and continuity, but also an assurance that the Journal will continue to grow and thrive. There is also something symbolic about this Journal's return to the University of Michigan, which hosted the Journal for its first nineteen years, with Hessel E. Yntema as Editor-in-Chief. Reimann is now the Hessel E. Yntema Professor of Law at Michigan. We wish him a successful and long tenur e as the Journal's new steward. Symeon C.
