Letter of Correction

Letter of Correction Letter of Correction In a footnote to “Skulptur Projekte in Münster: Excerpts from Correspondence 1976–1997” (October 120 [Spring 2007], p. 87), I stated that work on Michael Asher’s Writings 1973–1983 On Works 1969–1979 was begun under the direction of Kasper König and completed in collaboration with Benjamin Buchloh. I regret that my note did not accurately reflect Buchloh’s role in the conception, writing, editing, and production of this publication. From 1978 to 1983, Asher’s Writings were co-written by Buchloh and Asher over the course of numerous writing sessions conducted in Los Angeles, New York, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. As editor of the volume and of the Press of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Buchloh also commissioned the architectural drawings used to illustrate Asher’s works, and oversaw both the design of the book and its printing by NSCAD Press. As will be obvious to readers consulting the Writings, Buchloh’s role as cowriter and editor is central to the project’s ultimate form. As a result of Buchloh’s involvement and significant time investment in the Writings, the text was expanded beyond the technical and material description of Asher’s works, to include substantial analysis of the works’ theoretical implications. In many cases, the collaboration between artist and editor resulted in joint authorship of the texts. It was never my intention to misrepresent these facts, and I welcome the opportunity to correct the record regarding Buchloh’s important role as co-writer and editor of Asher’s Writings.
