Ethnic dermatology: exploring common presentations in clinical practice

Ethnic dermatology: exploring common presentations in clinical practice The ethnic minority population in Britain is increasing every year, making the field of ethnic dermatology an emerging and important one. Statistics have shown that, owing to migration and high birth rates in the UK, Britain's ethnic minority population has grown by almost 40% since 2001. In practice, clients may present to the cosmetic clinic with skin conditions that aesthetic nurses are not familiar with. Therefore, the aim of this article is to introduce some common dermatological conditions such as acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, outline the main treatment options for each, and describe the limitations when treating these conditions within the aesthetic setting http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Aesthetic Nursing Mark Allen Group

Abstract

The ethnic minority population in Britain is increasing every year, making the field of ethnic dermatology an emerging and important one. Statistics have shown that, owing to migration and high birth rates in the UK, Britain's ethnic minority population has grown by almost 40% since 2001. In practice, clients may present to the cosmetic clinic with skin conditions that aesthetic nurses are not familiar with. Therefore, the aim of this article is to introduce some common dermatological conditions such as acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, outline the main treatment options for each, and describe the limitations when treating these conditions within the aesthetic setting
