Assessing acne vulgaris: risk factors, clinical features and examinations

Assessing acne vulgaris: risk factors, clinical features and examinations Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin disorder of the pilosebaceous unit and is the most common skin disorder worldwide. To carry out an in-depth, meaningful patient assessment for this condition, aesthetic practitioners must be familiar with its pathophysiology and clinical features, in particular, the four main factors driving acne development. The purpose of this article is to provide an assessment tool for acne documentation, covering patient history, physical examination and previous/present treatments. Practitioners are also encouraged to use a psychosocial assessment tool to assess the psychological impact of the disease. Acne is a treatable skin condition and early intervention is crucial to successful management and the prevention of post-inflammatory scarring. Key elements of the author's assessment tool will be discussed in detail throughout the article to aid a better understanding of the clinical features assessed. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Aesthetic Nursing Mark Allen Group

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin disorder of the pilosebaceous unit and is the most common skin disorder worldwide.
