Abstract

Medical professionals working in independent practice are accountable to their governing bodies and the law, and must be safe, lawful, professional and ethical. Consequently, aesthetic nurses should question everything they do with direct reference to the legislation and professional standards required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, General Medical Council and General Dental Council. It is not good enough to follow what others do without asking why and whether how we practice is as good as it should be. Therefore, the majority of nurses working in the field of medical aesthetics would benefit from a review of the regulations that apply and reflection on how and why these regulations apply to daily practice.
