The Etiology of and Preventive Measures against the Postoperative Reaction. Almost all surgeons note a fibrinous cellular reaction of the uvea following Ridley’s operation. In mild eases this reaction is accompanied by the formation of spots of exudate on the polymethylmethacrylate lens. As a rule, this exudate becomes increasingly pigmented, yet it may be p ar tially resorbed. Serious cases are reported to have formed massive amounts of exudate in the anterior chamber and elsewhere, with clouding of the anterior eye segment, marked hyperemia of the eyeball and even with chemosis. It is obvious that such a reaction pattern, if not resulting in the actual loss of an eye. might cause later complications such as seclusion and occlusion of the pupil secondary glaucoma, thickening of the posterior lenticular capsule, or clouding of the vitreous.
