Voto£ kova), Charles University, Prague To the idiopathic (primary) vasculitis and perivasculitis retinae (VR: Eales’ disease) two basic clinical pictures are assigned as follows: (1) A far more frequent peripheral form of VR begins by the inflammation of peripheral retinal vessels, primarily of thin-walled venules, the inflamma­ tion proceeds from the periphery to the posterior eye pole and manifests itself by perivascular exudation, by haemorrhages into the retina and vitreous, as well as by proliferation of newly formed vessels and of the connective tissue. According to the preponderant component of the in­ flammation, a predominantly exudative form (approx, in 2 0 % of pa­ tients), a predominantly haemorrhagic form (approx, in 5 5 % of patients), and a predominantly proliferative form (approx, in 2 5 % of patients) are discerned. About a half of the patients suffering from the peripheral form of VR recover with a good visual acuity.
